Dr. Powers received a B.S. in chemistry (1967) and a Ph.D. in dental materials and mechanical engineering (1972) from the University of Michigan. He taught at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry from 1969-1988. He currently teaches at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston since 1989, where he is Professor of Oral Biomaterials in Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials and Director of the Houston Biomaterials Research Center.
Dr. Powers is Senior Vice-President of Dental Consultants, Inc., and has served as co-editor of THE DENTAL ADVISOR since 1983. He has authored more than 820 scientific articles, abstracts, books, and chapters on dental materials and has lectured internationally. He is editor/author of Craig’s Restorative Dental Materials, Dental Materials – Properties and Manipulation, and Esthetic Color Training in Dentistry.
